Howard "Sarge" Ray Surber

Mr. Howard “Sarge” Ray Surber, 81, passed away Sunday December 12, 2021 at his home. He was born September 13, 1940 to the late Lonnie Arvil and Mary Lou Surber in Tazewell County VA. Sarge was a family man who loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren very much. He was a do it himself specialist who loved to piddle around the house or spend his afternoons fishing, and was a Dale Earnhardt and Atlanta Braves fan. He retired from Merita Bakery with 36 years of service, and proudly served his country in the United States Army. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant son; Rodney Eric Surber, and a brother; Roy Cecil Surber. He is survived by his loving wife; Carolyn White Surber, six children; Anita Duggins (John), Jenny Little (John), Sandra Brooks ( Steve), Richie Ziglar (Judy), Ray Surber, and Tracie Haynes ( Marty), nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three siblings; Rosa Mae Johnson, Dorothy Cox, and Tom Surber (Pat), and multiple nieces, nephews, and other extended family that loved him dearly. A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 AM Wednesday December 15, 2021 at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel with Mr. Todd Caudle officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall
