Mr. Howard Rowan Kimel, 91, a resident of Arbor Acres in Winston-Salem died Friday, March 13, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born October 20, 1917 in Forsyth County, the son of the late Jesse Theo and Addie Snyder Kimel. Mr. Kimel was a Cum Laude graduate of Appalachian State Teacher's College in 1940. He was employed by Buckeye Cotton Oil Co., a division of Proctor and Gamble. Following retirement he returned to Winston-Salem and became an active member of Maple Springs United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Margaret Fidler Kimel. Survivors include loving nieces and nephews, Jean Kimel Topping and husband, L. A. of Winston-Salem, Sherry Topping Allgood and husband, Chris and their daughter, Nicole of Clemmons, Roger L. Topping and wife, Michelle and their children, Kayleigh and David of Thomasville, Edwin M. Kimel of Decauter, GA, and Dr. Larry Kimel and wife, Diane and their daughter, Rene of Belmont. Friends may visit at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home on Silas Creek Parkway until the day of the service. A graveside service will be conducted Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery in Cornelius. A memorial service will be conducted Sunday, March 22, 2009 at 3:00 PM at Maple Springs United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Dr. Terry Matthews and Rev. Anne Elmore will officiate at both services.
