Hollis Durrell Stinson, Sr.

Mr. Hollis Durrell Stinson, Sr., 81 of Winston-Salem, passed away Sunday, December 21, 2008 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Laurens County, Georgia to the late William Cecil and Margaret Dominy Stinson on October 25, 1927. Mr. Stinson lived his early life in Wilkinson County, Georgia where he graduated from Toomsboro High School. Mr. Stinson was employed by Citizen and Southern Bank of Georgia and Nationsbank, currently known as Bank of America. He retired from Nationsbank with 30 years of service. Mr. Stinson was active as a Telephone Pioneer Partner in community service. He volunteered with Pilot Mountain Baptist Association, where he served as Chairman of Deacon Training. Mr. Stinson was also an active Mason, and served in the U.S. Navy Reserves and U.S. Merchant Marines. He was a member of Robinhood Road Baptist Church where he presently served as a Deacon and Sunday school class member. Mr. Stinson was preceded in death by a brother William Cecil Stinson, Jr.. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marsdelle J. Stinson; a daughter Gwyn S. Stewart; a son Hollis D. Stinson, Jr. and wife Patricia; four grandsons, Glen, Hollis III, Jason and Eric; a granddaughter Meredith and ten great grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 am Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at Robinhood Road Baptist Church with the Rev. John E. Hackworth, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7-9 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
