Hobert "Chris" Christy Mounce

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father Chris Mounce or lovingly known as “Pops”. Born in Winston Salem, NC to Nancy “Geraldine” Mounce. He unexpectedly passed away on March 14th at the age of 62. Chris was raised in Summerfield NC and spent most of his life in Browns Summit, NC before moving to his life long dream location on the Crystal Coast of NC. 

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Candace Mounce. Chris is survived by his mother Geraldine Mounce of Summerfield; devoted fiancé, Sherry Scimenes of the home; his son Brandon Mounce (Tara Mounce) of Trinity; his daughters Katie Shropshire (Stephen Bateman) of Browns Summit; and Bethany Mounce of Wellington Florida. His sister Sandra Beck (Randall) of Reidsville. Grandchildren, Kyleigh Shelton, Hannah Shelton, Carly Mounce, Hudson Bateman, and Jackson Bateman. He also leaves behind his two beloved Shih Tzus, Harley and Charlie. As well as a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that will miss him immensely. 

Throughout his life, he cherished his role as a father and grandfather. His love for family and friends was unwavering. After retiring from the Sheriff’s Office, you could find him on his boat, Reel Hooker, with family and friends. Whether it be deep sea fishing on the Southern Outer Banks, cruising the coast or in the woods teaching others how to shoot and harvesting large bucks, making his son drag them 200 yards back to the truck by himself. Chris had the ability to turn a room of strangers into a room of lifelong friends. He will be remembered for the size of his heart and joy he was able to spread to others in need.

 A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Pastor Lewis Forsyth officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Gur Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home, from 1:00PM - 1:45 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the Special Olympics of North Carolina at 2200 Gateway Centre Blvd, Suite 201 Morrisville, NC 27560.
