A worship service to give thanks to God and celebrate the life of Hiram Tucker will be held at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home Chapel on Silas Creek Parkway in Winston-Salem NC on Saturday, October 30 at 10am. The family will receive friends after the service in the parlor at Hayworth-Miller. Born Hiram Falcona Tucker in Guilford County NC. on 6 February 1915 to Calvin Pickney Tucker & Florence Mary Landreth Tucker. He was also known as Dick, H. F. , and was known to many simply as Papa. Mr. Tucker attended Reynolds High School and spent most of his life in Guilford and Forsyth County except for a brief time, during World War II, when he lived in Jacksonville, FL and drove buses for Greyhound. He worked for the Winston-Salem Police Department for 8 years before starting his own home construction company. Hiram married Irene Kiger on 9 May 1936. They celebrated more than 70 years of life together. Willa Lee Tucker (Brown) was their only, much beloved child. Mr. Tucker and his wife enjoyed many happy years in the congregation of Pine Grove Methodist Church where they were also active with the Willing Workers Sunday School Class. Hiram taught this class for 35 years. Mr. Tucker died on Friday October 15, 2010 at Wesley Long Community Hospital in Guilford County. Prior to his death, he spent time at the Blumenthal Jewish Nursing and Rehab Center in Greensboro. He is survived by his grandchildren: Angela Flanders & husband Steve, of Concord, NC with whom he lived the two years prior to his latest illness. Also Lisa Scruggs & husband Ed, of Monroe NC and Gregory Brown & wife Saga, of McLeansville, NC, his beloved great grandchildren Norman Sayers of Acworth, GA, Jacob Gabriel & Kyle Flanders of Concord NC and step great grandchildren Jessica & Jeffrey Sayers and Jaclyn Flanders. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Blanche Irene Kiger Tucker, beloved daughter Willa Lee Brown, brothers Elwood Ignacious Tucker, Roy Tucker, John Mott Tucker, William Lindsay Tucker, and Howard Holman ""Pete"" Tucker. His Sisters which predeceased him were Sarah Tucker Wooten, Mattie Tucker Tesh, Gladys Tucker Bond and Ethyl Tucker Ulrich. He also leaves behind many beloved friends, cousins, nieces and nephews too numerous to name.
