Hilda Anderson Totherow

Mrs. Hilda Anderson Totherow, 86, passed away July 3, 2013 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born November 1, 1926 in Forsyth County to the late Charles Wesley Anderson and Addie Styers Anderson. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Claude Totherow; a brother, Jack Anderson (Vivian); three sisters, Margaret Bennett (Paul), Jean Hodges (Lee), and Jippy Davis-Wood (Wade/ Harvey Lee); two brothers-in-law, Clark Totherow (Jerry) and Carl Totherow (Thelma); a sister-in-law, Louise Miller (Bob) Freeman (Pickens). Hilda was a lifelong resident of Forsyth County. After graduating from Rural Hall High School, she worked for Davidson Engineering until motherhood became her top priority. She enjoyed playing bridge and golf at Pinebrook Country Club. An avid traveler, Joe and Hilda enjoyed visiting many wonderful places throughout the world, especially when their travels took them to visit family. She also loved her church- Burkhead United Methodist Church and cherished her time as a volunteer at Forsyth Memorial Hospital on the baby ward. After meeting Hilda, it did not take long to discover that she was a Tarheel. It was easy to spot her white hair in the Dean Dome cheering on the Heels! Most of all, Hilda loved being a mom and a grandmother. She is survived by her two daughters, Paula Totherow of Rutherfordton and Judy Tuttle and husband Walter of Greer, SC; three grandchildren, Ross and Holly Anne Tuttle and Megan Helms; adopted grandchildren, Bridget and MacKenzie Drake; and a special friend Donna Helms. She is also survived by numerous wonderful nieces and nephews. The family would like to give a special thank you to her best neighbors, Nancy and Dave Drake, best caregiver, Dorothy Hughes, and to her wonderful Burkhead family.
