Hilda G. Smith

Mrs. Hilda G. Smith, 82, of Winston-Salem died Friday, July 15, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born June 17, 1929 in Stokes County, the daughter of the late, Ambers C. and Della Mae Gordon. Mrs. Smith was a graduate of James A. Gray High School and was a member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church. She retired from the Veterans Administration following fifteen plus years of service. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Pierce Smith and a son, Larry Gordon Smith. Survivors include two daughters, Patty S. Harper and husband, Jasper of Clemmons and Dianna S. Prather and husband, Russell of Rural Hall; one son, Claude P. Smith, Jr. and wife, Brenda of Winston-Salem; eight grandchildren, Stacy Fulp, Jennifer Wood, Jack Harper, Misty Shelton, Mark Prather, Melissa Carlisle, Cheryl Dodson, and Mahlon Smith; ten great grandchildren; and Frances Jessup and several other cousins. The funeral service will be conducted Sunday at 3:00 PM at Pine Grove United Methodist Church with Dr. Stephen Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel.
