On October 14, 2012, God received an angel into heaven. Hilda Gaye Hemric Isaacs arrived at the gate of heaven to be greeted by God, her parents and her brother. Hilda was born on July 27, 1939 in Yadkin County to the late Evan Marshall Hemric Sr. and Connie West Hemric. Hilda spent most of her early years in Yadkin County except for two years when the family moved to Florida for health reasons. Even at a young age Hilda knew she wanted to be a teacher. Teaching was her passion. Hilda graduated from Jonesville High School in 1957 and Greensboro College in 1961 with a degree in Elementary Education. In the summer, between her sophomore and junior years at Greensboro College, Hilda took a course at High Point College and met Patricia Isaacs. They became friends and Patricia introduced Hilda to her brother Johnny Isaacs and a courtship began. Hilda graduated from Greensboro College on May 28, 1961 and was married to Johnny one week later on June 4, 1961. Hilda began her teaching career at Speas Elementary in Winston-Salem in the fall of 1961. She taught three years at Speas, during that time she became a mother, three times. In 1962 along came Johnny Jr., Timothy was born in 1963 and Daniel in 1964. After taking a few years off to change and wash diapers, she resumed her teaching career at Rural Hall Elementary from where she retired in 1993. Hilda received the Teacher of Year Award in 1977-1978. She touched many lives during her teaching career. In 1985, Hilda and Johnny joined Bethania Moravian Church. Hilda loved God, her church and served in many different capacities, including the Board of Elders, Co-Sunday School Superintendant and on many different committees. In 2006, Hilda directed the Christmas Candle Tea at Bethania, at which time children from area schools came to observe the life of the early Moravian Settlers. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Evan Marshall Hemric Jr. in 1993. Hilda is survived by her husband Johnny, her three sons, Johnny Jr. (Kristy), Timothy and Daniel (Marie), her grandchildren, Paul, Jacob, Emily and Hailey, her great-granddaughter, Allison, two sister-in-laws, Patricia Freeman and Carol Hemric and a special cousin, Margaret Ann Swisher. She is also survived by many other nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at Bethania Moravian Church with Rev. Charles Fishel and Rev. Russell May officiating. Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 this evening October 16, 2012 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Bethania Moravian Church, 5545 Main St., Bethania, NC 27010 or the charity of the donor's choice. The family would like to thank the staff of Universal Health Care in King for their professional and compassionate care during the last 3 ½ months of Hilda's life and Dr. Davie Stallings of Rural Hall for his many years of friendship and personal care.
