Hilary Kenneth McKeown, Sr.

Mr. Hilary Kenneth McKeown, Sr., 80, of Clemmons, received his invitation to heaven on July 9, 2013. He was surrounded by his wife and family. Ken was born October 17, 1932 to Raymond and Phoebe McKeown. Ken served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and held the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was very proud that he could serve his country. Ken returned from the Army and went to work at R.J. Reynolds Tobbaco Company retiring after 35 years of service. In retirement he was proud to help run Heather Hills Golf Course for 11 years. Ken loved the game of golf and was a faithful fan of Wake Forest. He attended the First Christian Church of Clemmons. Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, R.J., Jr.; his beloved daughter, Crystal Ann McKeown; his infant grandson, Anthony Bryant Mangum, III and his life long friend, Ted Sink. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Jean Williams McKeown; a son, Ken McKeown, Jr. (wife Robin); a daughter, Mischa Mangum (husband Skip); grandchildren, Lauren, Adam and Austin McKeown and Ian and Caroline Mangum; his sister, Frances Veach (husband Ray); a brother, John McKeown; his beloved little Yorkie, ""Fergie"" and the 25 remaining classmates of the class of 1951 Griffith High School. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 12, 2013 at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. Larry J. Davis officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his honor to First Christian Church of Clemmons, 6131 Frye Bridge Rd., Clemmons, NC 27012 or to St. Jude Childrens' Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
