Mrs. Hester Mae Willard Mendenhall, 85, of Yadkinville, NC, passed away on Friday morning, February 16, 2018, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born in Forsyth County on June 10, 1932, to the late John Willard and Lelia May Bowman Willard. Hester was a member of Maplewood Baptist Church in Yadkinville. She worked as an assistant to Dr. Harold Mendenhall in his office for many years. Hester loved helping others and was a loving wife, mother and sister. She enjoyed working outdoors in the garden, walking, and loved to quilt. Hester loved helping children and spent many years as a school volunteer in the Yadkin County School System. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Lee Mendenhall; a son, Larry Lee Mendenhall; and several brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son, Joey Harold Mendenhall of Yadkinville, NC; one sister, Frances Sides (Ralph) of Winston-Salem; and one brother, Don Willard of Reno, NV. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Lancaster officiating. Interment will follow at Westlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Children's Center of Yadkin, P.O. Box 1206, Yadkinville, NC 27055.
