Oak Ridge-Herbert H. Redman, 79, died Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at Wesley Long Community Hospital. He was born January 8, 1929 in Stokes Co. to the late Trevor Wilson and Grace Nelson Redmon. Mr. Redman was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church and was a Deacon Emeritus. He retired from Sun Oil Company. For 30 years Herb was affiliated with the Oak Ridge Horse Show and Fiddlers Convention, and was a founding member of the Oak Ridge Volunteer Fire Department. He loved to farm the land and garden. He also enjoyed wood working and was an avid golfer. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Lora Frances Cummings. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Billie L. Redman of the home; two sisters, Pearl R. Willard of Oak Ridge, Dorothy R. Dollarhite and husband Louis of Kernersville; one brother, Ron D. Redmon and wife Pam of Greensboro; two sisters-in-law, Marie Lowrey Armstrong of Oak Ridge, Janie Lowrey Clendenin of Julian; one brother-in-law, Thad Lowrey and wife Bobbie of New Port Richey, Florida; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Saturday, January 10, 2009 at Union Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Dean and Dr. Brooks Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:30 pm Friday, January 9, 2009 at Hayworth Miller Funeral Home Kernersville Chapel. Memorials may be made to Union Grove Baptist Church Current Building and Grounds Fund, 5424 Union Grove Rd., Oak Ridge, NC 27310 or Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405. The family would like to express its sincere gratitude to Dr. Lennis Livesay and staff for all the care that was given to Herb for the last 6 years.
