Herbert Olsen

Mr. Herbert Olsen, 89, of Bermuda Run, and formerly Orleans, MA, passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at Bermuda Village Health Center. He was born November 22, 1925 in Denmark to Christen Kjar and Ingefred Jensen Olsen. Herbert is survived by his wife Bobbie Bynum Olsen; a son, David C. Olsen and wife Diane of Lewisville; a daughter, Lisa Kirkland M.D. and husband Daniel of Bel Air, MD; five grandchildren, Emma Rose, Sophie and Benjamin Olsen and Alexander and Nicholas Kirkland; a sister, Ruth Olsen Johnson and husband Axel; a sister-in-law, Vickie Olsen Michael and several nieces and nephews. Herbert was a decorated WWII Navy veteran, graduated from Union College, earned a master's degree from Columbia University, had a distinguished 43-year career in the National Park Service, most notably as Superintendent of the Cape Cod National Seashore, and retired as Chief of Cultural Resources for the North Atlantic Region of National Parks. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, April 13, 2015 at Bermuda Village Chapel, 142 Bermuda Village Drive, Bermuda Run, with Rev. Paula Northrup officiating and a reception following in Magnolia Parlor. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff at Bermuda Village for their care and kindness during his residency there.
