Mr. Herbert Earl Hillier, 89 of Creekside Terrace in Winston-Salem, formerly of Hillsdale, NJ died Thursday, September 4, 2008 at the Stitch Center. Mr. Hillier was born January 10, 1919 in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada the son of the late George Hillier and the late Christine Scott Hillier. He was a US Navy veteran serving during WW II on the USS Memphis and the USS Belleau Wood. He was a 32nd degree Mason in the Mozart Lodge No. 436 and a Shriner in the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite all in Pennsylvania. Mr. Hillier attended Augsburg Lutheran Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Hillier in 2000, and a sister, Anne Kellner. Mr. Hillier is survived by his children, Vicki Collins, George Hillier and wife Jane, Edward Hillier and wife Francene, grandchildren, Elizabeth Outlaw and husband William, Garth Regan, Scott Hillier and Brittany Hillier, great-grandchildren, Abigail Garwood, and Julia Outlaw, and former son-in-law, Jack Regan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Victory Junction Gang Camp. The family would like to thank special friends at Creekside Terrance, Roma and Tony Romanowsky and Jon Hayward and the nurses and staff at the Stitch Center Palliative Care Unit, for their love care and support.
