Herbert Bluhm

Herbert John Bluhm was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.  He passed away suddenly on January 9, 2021.  Herbert was the youngest child of Kathryn and Frederick Bluhm of Illinois.  After completing high school, he joined the U.S. Army where he served in the Korean War.  He later went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Illinois and doctorate in organic chemistry from the University of Iowa.  He moved to Winston-Salem after obtaining a job with R.J. Reynolds Tobacco, where he maintained his employment until retiring in 1988.  While in Winston-Salem he met and married his beloved wife, Nancy.  Herb loved tennis, taking in theater productions, and spending time with his family and friends.  His wry sense of humor will be missed by all.  He is survived by son Brian Bluhm and wife Cynthia, son Kevin Bluhm, grandchildren Claire Bluhm and Gavin Bluhm of Los Alamos, New Mexico; and sister’s Irene Buhr of Thomasboro, Ill and Helen Comnick of Minneapolis, MN.  He is preceded in death by his wife, Nancy.  Given current COVID protocols, the family is having a private graveside ceremony and will plan a celebration of life at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Special Olympics or your charity of choice.  Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
