Clemmons- Henry Doffie (H.D., ""Pete"") Martin, 73, of Clemmons, passed away at Forsyth Medical Center on October 28, 2012. He was born December 24, 1938, in Draper, Rockingham County, N.C. to the late Jess Washington Martin and Lela Nora Haynes Martin. He was a graduate of John Motley Morehead High School in Eden. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Arnella Foster, Jacqueline Heath, Evelyn London, Linda Talley, and Jessie Ann Price. He is survived by one brother, Don Martin and wife Fran of Clemmons, and one sister, Clydean East of Eden. On January 31, 1958, he was married to Shirley Ann Gover, who survives. The couple moved to Winston-Salem in that year. Henry worked for Hennis Freight Lines until its closure in 1982. Subsequently, he worked for Lakeside Apartments, Inc. until his retirement in 2007. In addition to his wife of 54 years, he is survived by one son, Timothy L. Martin and wife, Sharon of Clemmons, and one daughter, Tamera Tuttle Webster and husband, Jeffrey of Tobaccoville. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Alicia Martin, of Wingate University, Matthew Tuttle and Amanda Tuttle, both of Tobaccoville, his beloved dog, Petey, two sisters-in-law, Ethel Craddock of Stoneville, and Juanita Crowder of Graham, one brother-in-law, Philip Price of Eden, and a host of well-loved and attentive nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel on Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00p.m. and at other times at the home. Funeral services will be held on October 31, 2012 at 2:00p.m. in the Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. G. Thomas Shelton officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association or the American Cancer Society.
