Mrs. Helen M. Hyatt Beaton Spillers, 95, of Winston-Salem, died Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at Brighton Gardens in Winston-Salem, NC. Helen was born May 2, 1927 in Greensboro, NC to Ray Foil Sink Hyatt and Minnie Lee Chaney Hyatt but grew up in Detroit, Michigan where the family moved when she was 6 months old. She received her education in Detroit and Wyandotte, Michigan schools and also attended courses in specialized computer and accounting during her career. She retired from Link-Taylor Corp. and it’s affiliate, Young-Hinkle Corp. in Lexington, NC after 36 years of service. She served as Treasurer and Head of Accounting for the two businesses for many years. Prior to this employment, she was employed as a bookkeeper at Coble Dairy Products in Lexington for six years. Mrs. Spillers was a lifelong Baptist…a former member of Springwells Baptist Church in Detroit, MI, First Baptist Church in Lexington, NC, First Baptist Church in Reidsville, NC and finally of Ardmore Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, NC. She was very active in Sunday Bible Schools throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Paul L. Beaton and George Melvin Spillers; her parents; her brother, William Kenneth Hyatt; her sister, Dorothy Ray Hyatt Silvers; one grandson, Heath Brandon Smith and an infant daughter, Evelyn Marie Beaton. Also preceding her in death is her great-aunt (her father’s sister), Jennie Isabelle Sink Leonard…who was Helen’s legal guardian after both of her parents had passed away when Helen was a young child. Surviving are her daughter, Patricia Beaton Smith of Pinnacle, NC and a son, Kenneth Paul Beaton of Winston-Salem, NC; five grandchildren, Joseph Paul Beaton, Connie Beaton Lewis (Ben), Millard Smith, III, Frank Aaron Smith (Stella) and Patricia Michelle Smith Anthony; eleven great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren and one niece, Rebecca Lee Mullen (Lou) of Buckley, Washington. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 3, 2022 at Forest Hill Memorial Park in Lexington, NC. Visitation will be held before the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ardmore Baptist Church, 501 Miller St., Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or an animal rescue society of their choice.
