Helen Payne Vernon

Mrs. Helen Payne Vernon, 84, of Lewisville, NC died Monday, August 10, 2009. She was born February 1, 1925 in Surry County to Robert Walter and Bertha Hawks Payne. Mrs. Vernon was a member of Woodland Baptist Church and the Faithful Follower Sunday School Class. She had a love for flowers and gardening and also volunteering. She was strong in her faith. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robie James Vernon; 2 brothers; and 4 sisters. Surviving are 2 sisters, Mary Lou Jones of Mt. Airy and Linda Fobert of Greensboro; several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews; special friends, Bill & Betty Grooms, Walker Shelton, and Barbara Rodgers. Services will be held at 11:00AM Wednesday at Woodland Baptist Church by Pastor Tim Gammons. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall. Memorials may be made to Woodland Baptist Church Building Fund, 3665 Patterson Ave., Winston-Salem, NC 27106.
