Mrs. Helen Black Thompson passed away early Thursday morning February 7, 2013. She was born on July 15, 1930 in Cabarrus County to the late Clarence Dewey and Hallie Rainey Black. Helen enjoyed reading and knitting. She was a longtime member at Central Terrace United Methodist Church, where she also sang in the choir. Helen loved traveling with her late husband Homer Thompson and attending Parkland High School and Carolina Panthers football games. Helen taught special needs children in the Winston-Salem Forsyth County School System. She was preceded in death by her husband Homer Thompson; brother, Robert Black; and sister Doris Hinson. Surviving to cherish Helen's memory are her daughter Anne Jarrett and husband Thomas; son Mackie Thompson; grandchildren Wendy Cheek and husband Robbie, Nicholas Thompson, Mary Peyton Thompson, and Anna Pressley Thompson; great grandchildren Maxwell James Cheek, and Leah Bethany Cheek; sister Cindy Spry; brother Donald Black; brother-in-law Donald W. Thompson; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday February 10, 2013 at Central Terrace United Methodist Church with Pastor David Greene and Pastor Dave DiMarco officiating. Entombment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6-8pm at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Central Terrace United Methodist Church 3 E.
