Helen Sparks Smith

Mrs. Helen Sparks Smith, 84 went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 27, 2012 at Bermuda Commons in Advance. She was born November 9, 1927 in Butler County, OH, the daughter of the late, Cashus P. and Lucrecy Cox Sparks. Mrs. Smith grew up in Irvine, KY where she worked for Carhartt Clothing. She moved to NC in the late 40's. and worked for Hanes Hosiery and Grandview Food Stores. She was a member of Pfafftown Christian Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold E. Smith; four brothers and one sister. Survivors include one son, Don Smith of Arcadia; one daughter, Elaine Wilder and husband, Bill of Clemmons; two sisters, Faye Canter and husband, Jim and Wanda Smith and husband, Carroll of Winston-Salem; numerous nieces and nephews and special friends, Ken and Peggy Bissette of Newton and Don and Helen McClendon of Arcadia. A graveside service will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 PM at Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall with Pastor Greg Lewis and Pastor Matt Pope officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home on Silas Creek Parkway. Memorials may be made to New Life Baptist Church, 2513 Neudorf Road, Clemmons, NC 27012. The family would like to say a special thanks to the staff and residents of Bermuda Commons and to the special caregivers at Hospice of Bermuda Commons.
