Helen Motsinger Shoaf

Mrs. Helen Motsinger Shoaf, 86 of Farmington passed away peacefully at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home and entered life eternal on Thursday, July 10, 2014. She was born on September 22, 1927 in Thomasville to Robert Everett and Myrtle Shoaf Motsinger. In 1945, she met the love of her life and husband of 62 years, Reverend Fred C. Shoaf. Fred predeceased Helen in 2008. She was devoted to her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will be remembered by her family as an exceptionally loving mother and wife who was always proud of her family and was their strong advocate. She was a devoted minister's wife and supported her husband faithfully in ministry, playing an integral part in all the churches they served. She loved her many friends and never met a stranger. Helen loved flowers, entertaining, and decorating, and was an excellent seamstress and homemaker, and enjoyed playing the piano and organ. In addition to her husband, she was preceeded in death by a sister, Lillie Mae Motsinger, five brothers, Arthur, Raymond, Hollis, Robert and Francis Motsinger. She is survived by two sons, Richard Shoaf, and Rev. Timothy Shoaf; a daughter, Angela Spach, and her husband Eddie, all of Farmington. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Brian Spach and wife Kathryn; Melissa Spach Lail, and husband, Andrew; Melinda Spach Ladd, and husband Jason. Two great-grandchildren Justin Ladd and Bethany Spach. Also surviving are her two sisters, Elizabeth Long, of Midway, and Dorthine Oakley, of Grafton, WV.
A funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2014 at Farmington United Methodist Church, 1939 Farmington Rd, Mocksville, NC, where she was an active member. Interment will be at the Farmington Cemetery immediately following the service. A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2014, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel in Advance.
