Helen Queen Sheetz Gray

Helen Queen Sheetz Gray, 97, of Glade Valley, NC, passed away peacefully in her sleep on her 97th birthday, on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, in Largo, Fl.

Helen was born February 18, 1928, in Winston-Salem, NC, the daughter of the late Richard Sheetz and Grace Money Sheetz. 

She attended Gray High School in Winston-Salem. After high school, she worked for the local Telephone Company. One of her jobs there was training switchboard operators. Helen met the "Love of Her Life", Roy Gray, and they would marry in 1950. Helen and Roy had one son, Rick, born in 1953. In 1961, Roy, Helen, and Rick moved to Seminole, FL, where Helen had a career in banking until her retirement. Roy was her devoted companion and husband for 44 years until his death in 1994.

After the passing of Roy, Helen moved permanently to their second home in Glade Valley, NC. Helen loved the North Carolina Mountains. She spent much of her time outside working around the property on her Prized Kubota Tractor. She cherished traveling with her brother and sisters that lived nearby. It was not unusual to call her brother multiple times a day just to talk about the weather or baking pound cakes. She treasured her neighbors, as they were her best friends. 

In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her brothers, Richard Sheetz and Steve Sheetz; and sisters, Esma Spaugh and Martha Alred. 

She is survived by her brother, Joe Sheetz; and her son, Rick Gray.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00PM on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Randall Sheetz officiating. The family will gather immediately following the service in the Robert F. Miller Center for a lunch reception. Burial will take place at 2:30PM following the reception at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
