Helen Preston

Helen Cooke Preston, age 98, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Saturday morning, July 31, 2021.   She was born March 29, 1923, in Columbia, SC.  A long-time employee of Smith’s Transfer Trucking Company in Greensboro, NC, Helen took pride in keeping the office running smoothly.  After retirement, she enjoyed doing arts and crafts, spending time with family and friends, and traveling to the beach.  Helen loved knitting and crocheting and made countless hats for preemie babies and lap blankets for the elderly, which she donated to local hospitals and nursing homes.  She was an active member of The Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Epiphany for as long as her health permitted.  Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Fred G. Preston; son, Terry D. Preston; granddaughter, Allison Hine; and son-in-law, Tom Brockway.  Helen is survived by daughters Sharon Hine (Alan), of Winston-Salem, and Sher Brockway, of Charleston, SC; granddaughter Stacey Charles Scott, of Atlanta, GA; grandsons Duane Hine (Erika), of Winston-Salem; Brian Preston (Mandy), of Fort Mill, SC; Mitchell Preston and Brett Preston, both of High Point, NC; great-grandchildren Charlie and Henry Scott, of Atlanta, GA; and Kaitlyn, Evelyn, and Kevin Morales, of Winston-Salem.  She also leaves many other caring family members and friends. A graveside service will be held at Parklawn Memorial Park in Winston-Salem at 12:00 PM on Thursday, August 5, 2021.
