KERNERSVILLE – Helen Wilkins Pegg, 85, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, March 21, 2023. She was born on January 20, 1938 in Granville County to the late Cal and Mary Hicks Wilkins. In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Jack Pegg; her sister, Blanche W. Sadler; and one brother, Raymond Wilkins.
Helen was known for her outgoing personality and deep love for family, friends and her church. She was a longtime member of Union Grove Baptist Church, where she was active in the choir and served in many other capacities. She enjoyed tending to her garden and flowers, listening to Blue Grass music and watching Duke Basketball. She especially loved cooking and sharing meals with her family. Helen’s kind heart and genuine beauty never diminished. In her younger years, she was crowned Miss Stem- Granville County, and later in her life, she became a licensed Cosmetologist, owning and operating her own hair salon for many years.
Helen is survived by her son, Jeff (Ashlee) Pegg of Kernersville; her daughter, Wendy (Mack) Albright of Durham; her brother, Calvin Wilkins; four grandchildren, Katie (Jeremy) Godfrey, Kelly (Michael) Tyndall, Michael (Kristen) Pegg, and Morgan Pegg; three great grandchildren, Ragan, Deacon, and Saylor; and was looking forward to a fourth great grandchild, Baby Pegg, that is due in May.
She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and “Granny” to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 23, 2023 at Union Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Roberson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in The Arbor at the church.
The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude and thanks to their family, friends, and her church family for their prayers and many acts of kindness shown to Helen, as well as the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice, and her caregivers for their care and professionalism.
