Helen Ann Moffat LaFlaur of Winston-Salem, N.C., died peacefully at home on Thursday, June 16, at the age of 82. She is survived by her son, Mark LaFlaur (Janet Cameron) of New York City, and her daughter, Mary Ann L. Rogers (David Rogers) of Lewisville, N.C. In addition to her children she is survived by her two grandchildren, Megan Q. Rogers and Davis M. Rogers. Her husband of 45 years, Charles J. LaFlaur, died in 1999. The daughter of Vance Quin Moffat and Robert Anderson Moffat, she grew up in Atlanta, where she graduated from Henry Grady High School in 1951. For over twenty years she and her late husband were members of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Birmingham, Ala. After retiring from Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Alabama in 1998, she moved to Winston-Salem in 1999. For some 17 years Mrs. LaFlaur was a volunteer at Forsyth Medical Center, and volunteered at the Reynolda House Museum of American Art and at schools and libraries. She loved reading, going to the beach, and traveling. As one family member observed, ""she was the epitome of beauty, elegance, grace, and strength."" A visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, June 20, at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home, 6685 Shallowford Road, Lewisville, and a funeral service will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church at 4820 Kinnamon Road in Clemmons at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Shepherd's Center of Greater Winston-Salem (shepherdscenter.org).
