Mrs. Helen Avis Tilley Key, age 86 of Winston-Salem passed away Sunday, March 15, 2015 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Key was born in Surry County June 22, 1928 to Terry Madison and Alice Ruth Hensley Tilley. Helen was a born again Christian of the Baptist faith. She was a very loving mother and grandmother. Helen enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. She never met a stranger and was well known by everyone as a Walmart greeter for 16 years. Helen retired from Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem with 14 years of service. In addition to her parents Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Manuel Key, one son, Eric Manuel Key and three brothers; James, Glenn and Paul Tilley.
Mrs. Key is survived by one daughter, Zelda (Phillip) Colbert of East Bend. Two grandchildren; Shannon (Clint) Knight of Lewisville and Andrew Phillip Colbert of East Bend. Five sisters: Ruby Robertson and Betty (John) Bumgardner both of Winston-Salem, Phyllis Hiatt, Shirley (Donald) Hiatt and Mildred Berrier all of Mt. Airy. One brother, Howard (Etta) Tilley of Cana, VA. Several nieces and nephews. A special friend, Robert Webb and her loving dog companion, Toby.
Funeral services for Mrs. Key will be held Thursday, March 19, 2015 at 1:30 P.M. at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home Chapel in Rural Hall by Pastor Mark Elmore. Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall. The family will receive friends at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall Thursday, March 19th from 12:00 until 1:00 P.M.
