Mrs. Helen Smith Joseph, 78, of Winston-Salem, NC, died Monday, August 25, 2008 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mrs. Joseph, the youngest of 10 children, was born July 15th, 1930 in Pittsburgh, PA, and was the daughter of the late Wesley Charles Smith and the late Margaret Jones Smith. After graduating from Stowe High in 1949, she became a professional dancer known as Jet Smith. While traveling and performing around the country, she met her vocalist husband, the late Joseph T. Joseph of Allentown, PA, (Tommy Layne), who preceeded her in death in 1961. After leaving show business, she took a career in retail management in Allentown, PA, for over 25 years. After retiring, she enjoyed helping her son in his photography business, answering calls and taking appointments. She is survived by her son, Michael J. Joseph and wife Karen of Jacksonville, FL, and a sister Charlotte Hathaway and her husband Ray of Pittsburgh, PA, as well as a list of nieces and nephews she dearly loved. A memorial service will be conducted 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 30, 2008 at her church, Forsyth Park Baptist Church, Winston-Salem, NC, with Rev. John Krivsky officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be given either to the American Cancer Society or to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
