Mrs. Helen Johnson Hoots, 90, of Rural Hall passed away on September 2, 2014 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mrs. Hoots was born in Williamson, West Virginia on September 11, 1923 to Shirley Blair and William Walter Johnson, Jr. She served in the Philippines and Papua New Guinea in the Women's Army Corp (WAC) during World War II and was a member of the King American Legion Post 0290.
Mrs. Hoots was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 52 years, J.D. Hoots. She is survived by her three sons, James Hoots (Lois), Danny Hoots (Pat), and Adam Hoots (Noelle Haydon) all of Rural Hall; five grandchildren, Lori Jee (Stuart) of Cary, Stephanie Garrison (Culyon) of Kernersville, J.D. Hoots III (Amanda) of Rural Hall, Crystal Bopp of Winston-Salem, and Jennifer Hoots of Winston-Salem; nine great-grandchildren, Colin and Kevin Jee, C.J. and Larkin Garrison, Lilly and Will Hoots, Madison Bopp, Jamiya Moore and Jerrilyn Rousseau. She is also survived by a special sister-in-law Tib Hoots.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am, Friday, September 5, 2014 at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel with the Rev. Sidney Lanier officiating. Burial will follow at Rural Hall Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kingswood United Methodist Church, 6840 University Pkwy Rural Hall, NC 27045 or to Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
