Helen Carter Cavanaugh

Mrs. Helen Carter Cavanaugh, wife of the late James Lawrence Cavanaugh, passed away Sunday, March 28, 2010. She was born November 19, 1920 to Luther Paul and Flossie E. Carter who predeceased her. She is survived by her son, Jimmie L. Cavanaugh and his wife Martha and her daughter, Barbara C. Wilkinson and her husband Don. Her beloved grandchildren are Renee, Tracy, Brandon and Trent. Their children and her great grandchildren are James, Laura, Emily, Sarah, Jacob, Conner, Carter, and Avery who brought excitement and smiles into her life. Also surviving are her siblings, Lois Snider, Mary ""Fee"" Crotts and Billy W. Carter. Her deceased siblings are Richard, Bobby and Donald Carter and Betty Lou Stafford. She retired from P.H. Hanes after 40 years of employment. As an active member of her churches, she taught Sunday School and Bible School. Some of her favorite things later in life were making crafts and valentines and playing hand bells in the ""Ding A Lings"" group under the direction of her most beloved friend, Leslie Lineberry at The Elms at Tanglewood. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, April 1, 2010 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Tommy Lockwood officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Helping Hands Foundation, a ministry of financial and physical support for pastors, 2272 Briar Glen Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27127. It is with great gratitude that we thank Dr. Kesie Kindle of Palliative Care at Forsyth Medical Center, Michelle, RN, Beverly, CNA and all of those at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, who lovingly cared for our mother.
