Helen Wilson Carter, 98, passed away on February 16, 2015 at South Fork Assisted Living. She was born on April 16, 1916 to Jesse F. Wilson and Lillie Martin Wilson in High Point. Helen grew up in the Lexington area. She was a member of South Fork Baptist church. An expert seamstress, she also produced fine examples of detailed needlework and enjoyed crafts. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer L. Carter, as well as three sisters, Estelle, Ruby and Jessie. Surviving are her daughters, Betty Smith (David), and Reba Ellis; grandchildren, Byron Ellis (Sheridan), Dwight Smith (Elaine), and Brent Smith (Christine); and great grandchildren, Sara, Baily, and Jared Smith. The family would like to thank the staff of South Fork Assisted Living for the exemplary care they provided Helen over the years. The family would also like to thank Hospice for their care. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 19, 2015 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Dr. Reginald Kimbro officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Lexington City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Kate B.
