Helen Hendricks Boon

Helen Hendricks Boon passed away peacefully at Novant Forsyth Medical Center, Friday February 23, 2024. She lived at Bermuda Run in Advance for 50 years, spending the last 3 years of her life at Salemtowne’s Babcock Healthcare Center. Helen was born January 12, 1930 on the family farm in Franklin, Kentucky, the only child of Arthur and Anna Mary Hendricks. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her beloved husband of 52 years, Carl N. Boon.  Helen attended 1^st – 8^th grade at a one-room schoolhouse near the family’s farm. During high school she was active in the 4-H Club, showing lambs in competition. In 1947, she was selected as one of two delegates for the state of Kentucky for the National 4-H Camp in Washington, DC. Helen was one of nearly 200 delegates from 45 states and Puerto Rico. She was also selected to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Upon graduating high school, Helen attended the University of Kentucky, eventually graduating from Western Kentucky University with a degree in Home Economics. After college, she attended a buyer training program and became a department store dress buyer, working in Nashville and St. Louis.  Helen and Carl moved to Bermuda Run in 1972, where she became the consummate hostess. She spent many years entertaining and enjoying the company of friends in Garden Club, Bridge Club, Bunco, and her beloved Stitch ‘n Bitch group. She also enjoyed traveling the world with Carl and their friends, making the trek to Neyland Stadium for University of Tennessee football games, and traveling to and hosting cattle sales. In recent years, she delighted in the news and antics of her great-grandchildren, especially the only great-granddaughter, who she called the CEO.  Surviving Helen is her daughter Melissa Quinley (John), stepson Trip Boon (Brenda), grandchildren Schuyler Zimmerman (Danny), Will Quinley (Molly), Jeffrey Boon, Ashley Boon Asher (Scott), and five great-grandchildren.
