Helen Gentry Blackburn

Mrs. Helen Gentry Blackburn passed away Saturday morning October 1, 2011 at Arbor Acres United Methodist Retirement Community. She was born in Forsyth County on July 24, 1924 to the late Joseph and Eva Bumgardner Gentry. Helen graduated from Old Town High School in 1941. She was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church and the Willing Workers Sunday School class. Helen was also a member of the United Methodist Women since 1945. She is preceded in death by husband Claude Blackburn Jr.; sister, Elsie Gray Landon; and brother, Tom Gentry. Helen is survived by her son, Larry Blackburn and wife Lynn of Southern Shores, NC; daughter, Pat Russell and husband Steve of Cornelius, NC; grandson, Jeff Blackburn and wife Jamie of Denver, CO; sister, Anne Gentry O'Neal of Level Cross, NC; and brother, Clyde Gentry of Bolivia, NC. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at Crestview Memorial Park with Pastor Bill Currie officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at Arbor Acres - Arbor Room. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Hope United Methodist Church, 5125 Shattalon Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27106. Online condolences can be made at www.hayworth-miller.com
