Mrs. Hazel Allene Mays Sebastian Smith, 85, passed away on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mrs. Smith was born in Forsyth County on September 24, 1925 to Carmen Lee and Lillie Pickrel Mays. She was a lifelong member of Pinedale Christian Church where she sang in the choir. She retired from R.J. Reynolds with 20 years of service in the sales service department. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved cooking for her family as well as traveling. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Archie Evans Sebastian; two brothers Fred and Dink Mays and a stepdaughter Hester Joan Rodgers. Mrs. Mays is survived by her husband William Dodson Smith of the home; two sons Dane Evans Sebastian and wife Joan of Charlotte and David Lee Sebastian of Winston-Salem; one stepdaughter Judy Lorene Smith and husband Bill Beardall of Raleigh; three grandchildren Chad Sebastian, Brent Sebastian and wife Megan, Adam Sebastian and wife Anna; one step granddaughter Virginia Rodgers; three great grandchildren Leah Sebastian, Harrison Sebastian and Conrad Sebastian, and a stepson-in-law Ben A. Rodgers. A graveside service will be conducted Friday, March 4, 2011 at Parklawn Memorial Park at 2:00 PM with Pastor Bob McCaskill, Pastor Bill McKenzie and Pastor Leo Matthews officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Thursday evening, March 3, 2011 at Hayworth-Miller, Silas Creek Chapel. Memorials may be made to Pinedale Christian Church, 3395 Peters Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27127, or to Hospice and Palliative Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, 27103.
