Hazel Ruth Ward Alspaugh

Mrs. Hazel Ruth Ward Alspaugh, 82, of Winston-Salem died Saturday, October 15, 2011 at her home. She was born October 10, 1929 in Sugar Grove, NC, the daughter of the late John and Ellen Smitherman Ward. Mrs. Alspaugh was a member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church. She was a Registered Nurse and a graduate of City Memorial Hospital. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Bernie Alspaugh. Survivors include her husband, Jim Alspaugh of the home; two sons, Donald Ward Alspaugh and wife, Shannon of Raleigh and John Steven Alspaugh, M.D. and wife, Patricia of Virginia Beach, VA; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Gene Ward and wife, Betty of Sugar Grove and Don Ward and wife, Mary Lee of Johnson City, TN; and a number of nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday at 11:00 AM at Pine Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Stephen Martin officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall of the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Pine Grove United Methodist Church, 1130 Jonestown Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
