Hassel Jack Lankford

Mr. Hassel Jack Lankford, 86, passed away Friday, March 27, 2009 at his home in Winston-Salem. He was born in Stokes County on March 13, 1923 the son of the late William Luther Lankford and Lula Dell Alley Lankford. Mr. Lankford was a member of Woodland Baptist Church in Winston-Salem and a member of the Couples Sunday School Class there as well. He served our country during WWII in the U.S. Army Air Corp. while stationed in Guam. Mr. Lankford retired from Sara Lee Hosiery with 39 years of service. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Margaret Welch Lankford and six brothers and sisters. Mr. Lankford is survived by his daughter, Susan Lankford Silvers and husband Barry of Mt. Holly, a son, Joseph Eugene Lankford and wife Brenda of Winston-Salem, four grandchildren, Christina Lankford, Brian Lankford, Matthew Silvers and Heather McManus and husband Justin, four great-grandchildren, three sisters, Ruth Ingram, Nell Barrow and Ruby White all of Kernersville, one brother, Harry Lankford of Kernersville and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 29, 2009 at Woodland Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Gammons and Rev. Steve Mahaffey officiating. Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall with military rites provided by VFW Memorial Honor Guard . The family will receive friends from 6-8 this evening March 28, 2009 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall.
