Harvey Eugene Gordon

Mr. Harvey Eugene Gordon, age 79, of King passed away Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born March 16, 1935 in Stokes County to the late Will Earnest and Maude Viola Boyles Gordon. Mr. Gordon proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Philippine Sea during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the American Legion Post 290 of King. He was also a member of King Masonic Lodge 722 AF&AM, he was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. Mr. Gordon retired from R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company with 32 ½ years of service, then became a driver for Coach USA Tours. He was a faithful member of Poplar Springs Church of Christ and the Forever Young Sunday School Group. Mr. Gordon was a loving husband, father, papa, and brother. Harvey always wore a smile and never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Gordon was preceded in death by two sisters, Ermie Gordon and Jean Hicks (Harvey) and a brother, Carlos Gordon. He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Lena Francis Gordon; one daughter, Donna Rutledge (Rick) of Walnut Cove; grandson, Adam Rutledge (Kelly) of Germanton; granddaughter, Emily Rutledge of Walnut Cove; three brothers: Curtis Gordon (Ruby) of Westfield, Wayne Gordon (Lois) of Pinnacle, and Mike Gordon (Vicki) of Pinnacle; and lots of wonderful nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted 12:00 noon Saturday, September 6 at Poplar Springs Church of Christ with Ministers Don Wallace and Chuck Bowers officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Post 290 of King. The family will receive friends at the church two hours prior to the service.
