Harry Robert Dittmyre

Harry Robert Dittmyre, 83, went to be with his Lord and Savior February 27, 2013. Harry was born September 14, 1929 to Henry Dittmyre and Margaret Lorimer Dittmyre in Essex County, NJ. He was retired from the U.S. Dept. of Treasury where he worked for many years as a customs inspector. A strong pride in his Scottish heritage inspired him to learn to play the bagpipes, an activity he greatly enjoyed. Harry was also a life-long pilot and aviation enthusiast. After moving to NC, he became an active member of Parkway Chapel. In addition to his parents, Harry was preceded in death by two sons, Robert and William Dittmyre; and two brothers, Douglas and Kenneth Dittmyre. Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Betty McDowall Dittmyre; son, Bruce Dittmyre (Jilla); daughter, Laurie Bonilla (Carlos); grandchildren, Christine, John, and Lauren; as well as a sister, Selina Wait (George). A funeral service will be held 7:00 PM, Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Mr. James Beatty officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A private, family graveside service will be held Monday at Parklawn Memorial Park.
