Kernersville – Mr. Harold Gray Speaks, 84, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 6, 2022 at his residence. He was born on March 8, 1937 in Forsyth County to Toy Lee Speaks, Sr. and Mamie Wilson Speaks. Harold was employed by RJ Reynolds and retired after 33 years of faithful service. He was a faithful member of Goodwill Baptist Church. When he was able, Harold loved spend time fishing. He also enjoyed playing golf. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend who will be greatly missed.
In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by two grandsons, Jason and Jarrett Cook; a great granddaughter, Abigail Owens; four brothers, Raford Speaks, Toy Lee Speaks, Jr., Eugene Speaks and Douglas Speaks; and one sister, Jo Ann Cornatzer.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Vennie Vanhoy Speaks; his daughter, Sharon K. Oakley (husband, Brice); son, Harold “Gray” Speaks, Jr. (wife, Amanda); two stepchildren, Rickey Lawson (wife, Bonnie) and Diane Lawson Tuttle (husband, Tony); seven grandchildren, Vickie Matt, Mitch, Monica, Dustin, Lucas, and Levi; ten great grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.
A funeral service for Harold will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Pastor Greg Mullis officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. Interment will take place privately at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown.
