Harold Artemus Rice

Mr. Harold Artemus Rice, 95, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2016 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born April 27, 1920 in Homerville, GA the son of the late Eugene James Rice, Sr. and Laura Mae Lanier Rice. Mr. Rice served his country proudly with 27 years in the United States Navy, where he retired with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. After his career in the Navy, Mr. Rice pursued his education, receiving his BA from the University of Maine in 1967. He then pursued his MA and MALD from Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy (Tufts University) in 1968-1969. Mr. Rice completed his education in 1975, receiving his PHD from Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy (Tufts University). In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Rice Ferguson and two brothers, Eugene James Rice, Jr. and Lucius Lanier Rice. He is survived by his loving wife, Janet Baxter Rice, a son; Lanier Bishop Rice of Boston, MA, a brother; William Thomas Rice (Katherine) of Greenwood, SC, two step-children; Amy Baxter McDonald of Boston, MA and Bruce Graham McDonald of Avon Lake, OH, two step-grandchildren; Rylie Hannah McDonald and Olivia Grace McDonald; brother-in-law, John Sherman King (Jean) of East Haddam, Connecticut; special niece; Sandra Johnson (Reuben) of Winston-Salem and a few other nieces and nephews. There will be no formal services for Mr. Rice.
