Harold Dewitt Hastings

KERNERSVILLE-Harold Dewitt Hastings, 87, passed away Monday, April 27, 2015. He was born January 22, 1928 in Forsyth Co. to the late Carr and Edith Everidge Hastings. Mr. Hastings was a very active lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Kernersville as long as his health permitted; where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and on the building and grounds committee. He was owner and operator of Hastings Oil Company for over 30 years. It was that opportunity that allowed Harold to establish friendships with the community beyond just business endeavors. He always found the time to listen and was always willing to help those who were unable to help themselves. He considered it a privilege to bring his faith and witness to those he served. Mr. Hastings was one of the original founders of Beesons Fire Department. He also was a member and served on the board of directors at Beesons Cross Roads Fire Department since 1955. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Edward Hastings; and two sisters, Lois Lamendola and Barbara Ann Hilton. Surviving are his wife, Blanche Martin Hastings of the home; children, Susan (Tim) White of Kernersville, Keith (Patrick Dodson) Hastings of Clemmons, and Cathy Hege of Lexington; grandchildren, Kimberly (Roger) Nelson of Randleman, Ashley (Chris) Wilson of Kernersville, Graham White of Kernersville, Dylan and Sydney Hege both of Lexington; great-grandchild, Samantha Nelson of Randleman; sister, Sara (Clay) Hudson of Kernersville; and several nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 30, 2015 at First Baptist Church in Kernersville with Dr. Stephen Martin and Rev. Phillip Wagoner officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel.
