Hale B. Van Hoy

Mr. Hale B. Van Hoy, 87, of Clemmons, passed away Friday, May 6, 2016 at Brookstone Terrace assisted Living. He was born on November 11, 1928 in Forsyth County to Hale and Ottie Neale Van Hoy. Mr. Van Hoy graduated from Walkertown High School and in 1952 he graduated from the University of North Carolina with journalism degree. He worked at Western Electric as an Auditor and System Analyst before serving as the Executive Director of the Carolinas Golf Association for 25 years. Mr. Van Hoy also served as President of the International Association of Golf Administrators. In 1992 he was inducted into the Carolinas Golf Hall of Fame. Mr. Van Hoy was a member of Walkertown Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Bruce Hill. Surviving is his wife of 60 years, Peg Van Hoy of the home; one sister, Margaret Hill of Winston-Salem, and many loving nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at 2:00pm at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Dr. Gus Thomas and Dr. Cecil Cave officiating. Interment will follow at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. The family will receive friends from 12:30pm until 2:00pm Wednesday at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Carolinas Golf Association (Junior Golf Program), 140 Ridge Rd., Southern Pines, NC 28387.
