Hagar Lawson Duggins

Mrs. Hagar Lawson ""Nanny"" Duggins, 88, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Forsyth Medical Center. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mrs. Duggins was born on April 29, 1928, the daughter of the late David and Mabel Lawson. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church for most of her life, where she was Choir Director for 25 years. Upon moving to Winston-Salem, she became a member of Maple Springs United Methodist Church. She owned and operated Modernette Beauty Salon for 42 years. Mrs. Duggins will always be remembered for her love of family, her love of church, cooking for family and her lifelong love of music. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life for 56 years, J.V. Duggins, a grandson, Nolan Duggins and a brother, David E. Lawson. She is survived by a daughter, Gloria Duggins Whisenhunt (Curt); two sons, Kim N. Duggins (Sharon) and Derek S. Duggins (Tammy); her grandchildren, Chad Whisenhunt, Lindy Clawson (Scott), Josh Duggins, Ali D. Starnes (Alan) and Taylor Duggins; her great-grandchildren, Lilly Clawson, Jakob Clawson and Elisa Sprouse and three great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her friends at Arbor Ridge of Stanleyville. Funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at Maple Springs United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem with Rev. Gary Mahathey officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery in King, NC. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 Monday evening, February 6, 2017 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, Maple Springs United Methodist Church or Winston-Salem Industries for the Blind. Her family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Arbor Ridge of Stanleyville and their sincere appreciation to the staff of Forsyth Medical Center for their gentle, compassionate care during her last three days of life.
