H. Eugene "Gene" Martin

Mr. H. Eugene ""Gene"" Martin, 94, passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born September 28, 1922 in Surry County, the son of Z. Bentford and Ruth Underwood Martin. He was a member of Fairview Moravian Church, a former member of both the Exchange and Lion's Club and retired from Sears after 38 years of service. Gene enjoyed gardening, fishing, was devoted to his family and tried to achieve excellence in all endeavors. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 46 years, Mary Ruth Monger Martin; three brothers and one sister. Survivors include his daughter, Suzanne Martin Eich and husband, David of Smithfield, VA; a son, Bentford E. ""Ben"" Martin of Charlotte; six grandchildren and a special friend, Ann H. Stultz. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Monday, April 17, 2017 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Revs. Scott Venable and Don Griffin officiating. Burial will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 PM Sunday, April 16, 2017 at the funeral home.
