Mr. H. Reginald Ballard, 96, of Winston-Salem, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at his home. He was born August 13, 1916 in Mount Holly, NC to Hugh Young and Heidi Hinson Ballard. Mr. Ballard was a member of Augsburg Lutheran Church where he taught Sunday School, served on church council, and loved singing in the church choir. He was retired from Southern Bell and a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was the oldest member of the Deacon Club and was a past president of the Winston-Salem Sales and Marketing Executives. After his retirement, he was a volunteer at Old Salem. Surviving are his wife of 72 years, Emily Smith Ballard; two daughters, Lynne Fleischman and husband Bob of Winston-Salem, Barbara Johnson and husband Gene of Charlotte; four grandchildren, Whitney, Emily, Katie and Will; and four great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 30 at Augsburg Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dr. Ronald A. Rinn, the Rev. Daniel Pugh and Vicar Richard Goeres officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. The family will have a private entombment following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Augsburg Lutheran Church, 845 W. Fifth Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101 or Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
