Mr. Gurney ""Paul"" Vestal, 95, passed away January 17, 2014 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was one of sixteen children born June 28, 1918 in Yadkin County to the late Charles Gurney Vestal and Lillie Shugart Vestal. He attended South Fork Baptist Church. Mr. Vestal was retired from Piedmont Natural Gas and served in the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1935 until 1937 and subsequently served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, Ruth Reavis Vestal, and his brothers and sisters, Leo, Carl, Fred, Herbert, Willie, Mabel, Florence, Annie, John Dulin, Linney, Roy, Lucy, and Robert. He is survived by his daughter, Paulette Vestal Brewer and husband Robert; a special grandson, Robert Jason Brewer and a brother, Blaine Vestal. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 4:00p.m., Sunday, January 19, 2014 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Perkins officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be on Monday at the family cemetery in Mocksville with no graveside services. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Autumn Care of Mocksville with special thanks to Jane Harrison for the care and compassion shown to Mr. Vestal and to the staff of Kate B.
