Mr. Grover Franklin Shugart, Jr., 84, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 8, 2025.
He was born on March 18, 1941, to the late Margaret Huff Shugart and Grover Franklin Shugart, Sr., in Forsyth County, NC.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Grover was also a respected businessman - a General Contractor and proud owner of Shugart Enterprises for over 50 years. Through his work, he built countless homes across the Triad area, creating spaces for families to grow, gather, and make memories. His legacy stands not only in the structures he built, but in the lives he touched with his kindness and generosity.
In 1995, Grover experienced the most important transformation of his life. Acknowledging his need for God, he walked to the altar at church and surrendered his life to Jesus Christ, accepting Him as his Lord and Savior. From that day forward, he lived with the peace and hope that come only through a personal relationship with Jesus. He found great joy in gospel hymns and often stayed up late into the night listening to Gaither Vocal Band specials. Grover believed - and would want others to know - that salvation is not earned by good deeds or a successful life, but by trusting in the finished work of Jesus Christ, who died on the cross, rose again, and offers forgiveness and new life to all who call upon Him.
In addition to his parents, Grover was preceded in death by his sister, Sharon Cloud.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Kay; sister, Diane; daughter, Dee Dee; son, Brian and wife Susan; grandchildren, Ashley (Adrian), Andrew (Merrideth), Amanda, Austin, Emma, and Brian Jr.; and one great-grandchild, Arthur.
A celebration of Grover’s life will be held at Winston-Salem First Pentecostal Holiness Church on Friday, April 11, 2025, at 2:00 PM. Grover will lie-in-state one hour prior to the service at the church. Entombment will immediately follow the service at Forsyth Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Winston-Salem First Pentecostal Holiness Church, 998 Hutton St. Winston-Salem, NC 27101.
Grover’s life was a testimony to God’s redemptive grace. Though we grieve his absence, we rejoice in the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ. As one of his favorite hymns says, “Because He lives, I can face tomorrow.”
