Grover Cleveland Jones, Jr. 84, better known to his family and friends as G.C. , passed away on June 20, 2011, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice and Palliative Care Center. He was born on March 16, 1927 to Grover C. Jones, Jr. and Katie Bolick Jones. G.C. retired from Graybar Electric Company in 1989 after 43 years, and, in addition, worked many years at Waughtown Bait and Tackle Shop with his dad, Bowman Gray Stadium Concessions, and Wake Forest football games selling programs. G.C. attended Gray High School where he played basketball on the ""Jones squad,"" and baseball. He was drafted into the army in his junior year, served in Italy, and returned to earn his high school diploma after his discharge. G.C. attended Waughtown Baptist Church in his youth. He joined Trinity Moravian Church in 1950, was a faithful member and served many years as a Trustee. G.C. played for several local teams in his youth and beyond: basketball for Fritz Motors and Doby's Bakery; softball for McLean's Trucking, Whitney Furniture, Biltmore Dairy, and Trinity Moravian. G.C. loved fishing and especially enjoyed Davis Island trips. He was a skilled golfer, playing and caddying from childhood at Reynolds Park Golf Course, enjoying the local Yadkin Seniors Golf Association, and broke his age at 73. In retirement, he and Bobbi, his wife, volunteered as lighthouse keepers at the Cape Lookout National Seashore Lighthouse for two summers. They enjoyed many trips across the country and in Canada with Always Tours. G.C. was an avid Wake Forest and Atlanta Braves fan and enjoyed his birds and squirrels on Dumont Drive. He and Bobbi moved to Homestead Hills last year and have reconnected with and made many new friends there. He was preceded in death by his parents and youngest sister, Rebecca Jones Motsinger. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Barbara Clark Jones (Bobbi) and his two devoted daughters, Cindy Jones Reavis of Kernersville and Pam Jones Harvey (Mark B.) of Richmond, VA; and three grandsons, Kevin Reavis, Chad and Garrett Harvey; his sisters, Barbara Ann Laughter (James) and Patricia Lewis (Bill); his brother, Randall Jones (Iris); and brother-in-law, Wayne Motsinger of Dobson, NC.; several nieces and nephews; close cousins Kitsy Mathis, locally and Judy Grant of Jacksonville, FL. The family will receive friends at Hayworth Miller Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 22, from 6 - 8 PM. A funeral service will be held at Trinity Moravian Church at 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 23, 2011 with the Rev. John Jackman and the Rev. William McElveen officiating. Burial will follow at God's Acre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 and Trinity Moravian Church, 220 E. Sprague Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27127.
