Grantley Alphonso Lynch Sr. completed his life journey peacefully into the arms of the lord on February 7, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. On April 10, 1957, Grantley was born in Saint Michael, Barbados, West Indies, to Lionel Lynch and Ina Murrell. He attended Foundation Boys School in St. Michael. Growing up in his early years, he lived in Brittons Hills with his grandmother Gwendolyn Lane and his sister Angela King. He resided in Beckles Hills in later years with his mother, Ina Murrell, and his other siblings.
He migrated to the United States to Boston, Massachusetts, in 1970, where he attended Dearbourne School. He also attended English High School for three years and later graduated from Dorchester High School. As a child, he loved spending time with his family and friends and playing basketball with his brother-in-law, David. Every day after school, he sat with his cousin, Silva, who would make him food; even in his adult life, he would make sure they had weekly telephone conversations. He met his high school sweetheart Elizabeth (Liz), who later became his spouse and “partner in love” for over 43 years. From their union, he had five beautiful children, Grantley Jr., Erika, Tiffany, Brittney, and Bryant.
Upon graduation, he worked as a Kitchen Supervisor for 20 years at Mass General Hospital, Boston, MA, until he relocated to North Carolina in 1995 with his family, where he became a Supply Manager for Citadel Winston Salem Nursing Home for over 20 years.
There are not enough words to discuss or describe Grantley. He was such a generous man; he was kind and loving. Above all, he absolutely loved his family. He was a family man who preferred spending time at home surrounded by his wife and children while enjoying home-cooked meals. To his siblings, he was the best brother in the world, from his sister, Angela—to whom he spoke to every morning on his way to work. He was “Her Favorite Person.” He was truly loved by everyone who knew him and was a father to everyone who met him. He was always the first to attend soccer games, concerts, or competitions for his children and grandchildren.
Everyone that knew him knew that he was a sports fanatic. He was a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the New England Patriots. He also enjoyed watching golf and always cheered on his hometown teams, Boston Bruins, Boston Red Sox, as well as the Los Angeles Lakers. Most weekends, you could find him at the local sweepstakes with his wife and friends or watching a movie with his family. He was always up to host a Superbowl party or take his grandchildren fishing on a nice day.
Grantley left a legacy unlike any other. Left to cherish his memory, he leaves behind his beloved wife Elizabeth; his sons, Grantley Jr. and Bryant; his daughters, Erika, Tiffany, and Brittney; sisters, Angela (David) King and Jacqueline Lynch; and brother, James (Darlene) Marshall. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Grantley III (Telly), Kevin, D’Angelo, Divinity, and Brentley Lynch; nieces, Michelle, Melissa, Keisha, Darlene, LaTonya, Tinika, Nekeyda, Lanisha, Lauren, Andrea, Angelica, and Magdelina; nephews, Anthony, Kenyon, Anthony, Aaron, and Andreus; aunts, Vera Greenidge and Muriel Jordan; uncles, Alfred Lane, Prince Weekes, and Arlington Lane; sisters-in-law, Sherri Davis, Teri (Griffith) Lockridge, Tonie (Anthony) Mitchell, and Annette Davis; brother-in-law, Aaron Davis; and a host of cousins, great-nephews and nieces. Grantley was preceded in death by his parents, Lionel Lynch and Ina Murrell; stepfather, Charles Murrell; sister, Beverly Perry; aunts, Marie Lynch, Daphne Jones, Anita Brown, and Audene Bailey; uncles, Aubrey Lynch and Carlton Lane; mother-in-law, Marie Talbert; and brothers-in-law, Joseph Perry Jr. and Alfred Davis.
Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Friday, February 18, 2022, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel from 12:45 until 1:45 pm with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. A reception will be held following the burial in the Robert F. Miller Center at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, 3315 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
