Grady Blanco Hawks, Jr.

Mr. Grady Blanco Hawks, Jr., 87, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Forsyth Co. on March 11, 1926 the son of the late Grady B. Hawks, Sr. and Myrtle Leona Harrell Hawks. Mr. Hawks was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend who will be missed deeply by all who knew him. He was a faithful member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in King. Mr. Hawks retired as plant engineer from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co./ Archer Division. He was an avid golfer and a member of Pilot Knob Country Club in Pilot Mountain. Mr. Hawks proudly served our country in the United States Army during WWII and the Korean War. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Olen ""Elwood"" Hawks and a special son-in-law, Edward Hardin Browder. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Hattie Golden Hawks of the home, his daughter, Judith ""Judie"" Hawks Browder of King, two grandsons, Mickey Browder (Kim) of Westfield and Jeff Browder (Dolly Austin) of King and his precious great-granddaughters, Sarah, Ecko and Rebecca. He is also survived by a brother, James ""Hoyt"" Hawks (Nancy) of Statesville, a sister-in-law, Nancy Hawks and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Hawks will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2013 at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall with Rev. Carl Goodman, Rev. Alan Hutchens and Mickey Browder officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 this evening Thursday, May 30, 2013 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral in Rural Hall. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to: Mt.
