Grady Leroy Dowell

Mr. Grady Leroy Dowell, age 82 of Winston-Salem passed away Thursday evening, July 7, 2011 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. Grady was born in Surry County October 28, 1928 to the late Homer Columbus and late Pansy Perdue Dowell. He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during the Korean Conflict. Grady was a retired truck driver and mechanic. He was a very loving husband, father and grandfather. Grady was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, Grady was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years of marriage, Patricia Mickey Dowell, a grandson, Jeffery Hall, two sisters and two brothers. Surviving are his three daughters; Vickie (Harold) Whicker of Germanton, Debbie (Joe) Walsh of Walkertown and Sharon (Mike) Atwood of Yadkinville. Two grandchildren; Heather (Dee) Tedder and Tim (Whitney) Pettitt. Four great grandchildren. Two brothers; Paul (Joy) Dowell of Winston-Salem and Dan (Faye) Dowell of King. Several nieces and nephews. His special caregiver, Gail Myers. A graveside service will be held Monday, July 11, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Forsyth Memorial Park in Winston-Salem by Pastor Brian Taylor. Military burial rites will be conducted by The American Legion Post 290 of King at the gravesite. Family will greet friends following the graveside service.
