Grace Cox Hege

Grace Me Cox Hege, age 91, formerly of Kesteven Road, died Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at the Oaks at Forsyth in Winston-Salem. She was born in Forsyth County on October 30, 1916 to James Jasper and Annie Huffman Cox. As a young woman, Grace played basketball on her High School team at Lewisville and after her school years, she worked for Brown and Williamson Tobacco Company. On August 20, 1938, she married Foy James Hege, who passed away April 12, 2006. A person of deep faith, Grace was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and loyal to her family and friends. After her children were grown, she worked as a retail clerk and enjoyed her customers and co-workers at King's Department Store and The Woodshed. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Glenn, Hortis, Henry, Russell, Paul, Clarence (her twin), and Howard (""Buck"") and a sister, Kate Hiatt. Survivors are a son, Foy Joseph (Mary) Hege of Winston-Salem; a daughter, Bonnie (Tom) Baity of Advance; three grandchildren, Joe (Andra) Hege of Lexington; Carol H. (Michael) Stigall of Advance; Theresa B. (Gray) Burton of Winston-Salem; four great-grandchildren, John Stigall, Sarah Stigall, Emily Burton, and Ty Osterman; one sister, Jane Snyder of Winston-Salem, and many nieces and nephews. The Family will receive friends on Friday, October 10, from 7-9:00 pm. at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home on Silas Creek Parkway. A Graveside Service will be held at Forsyth Memorial Park on Saturday, October 11 a 12:00 Noon with Dr. Harold Fletcher officiating. The Hege Family appreciates the loving care of the staff of The Oaks at Forsyth and for the assistance and support of Hospice in Grace's last months. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
